How to apply and renew
Apply before activating a monitored or local audible alarm within Austin’s Full Purpose jurisdiction. An apartment tenant needs a residential permit for an alarm inside the unit.
Submitting the form does not activate the permit. Pay the registration invoice to complete the process.
Permits last one year. Use the Alarm Administration Portal to renew, pay invoices and update contacts. You remain responsible for renewing if a reminder does not arrive.

An unpermitted response is $220.
Police response
No separate verification or nonresponse rule was established; the city charges $220 for each police response to a non-permitted location.
